A recent article in The Jakarta Post described research about the inter-linkages between indigenous peoples' customary laws and the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity in Indonesia. The research showed how the communities' cultural practices and spiritual values contribute more to forest conservaton than government-imposed policies. The Alliance of Archipelagic Indigenous People (AMAN) is one of the organizations involved in supporting the communities' rights to their land and traditional ways of life.
